How to Take Control of Your Life From Social Media

,

It is amazing how the world is turning into a global village at an alarming speed thanks to technology. I mean take a look at the many social media sites mushrooming up every day in different corners of the internet. The craze is so overwhelming that many people are losing touch with reality. Conversations nowadays have tuned into texts. People are meeting their potential spouses over the internet. What happened to the good old fashion ways of meeting people?

Personally I have never been amazed by technology. In fact I could trade the 21st century for the 20th century just to live in a world where technology was non-existent. I have deleted a couple of people from my Facebook account. Almost everybody is now on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace just but to mention a few of the common social media channels. Do not get me started on texting. Everybody is texting each other these days. What is you take on all the social media fad?

In as much as these social tools can be quite useful and convenient, I think they just have contributed a lot towards the erosion of real interactions. People have forgotten how to have real conversations. They would rather text and use emoticons instead of words and facial expressions to pass whatever message they have across. We have forgotten the essence of real conversations.

Most people are way too plugged into this hi-tech world. What they forget is that your latest laptop that you value so much than life itself cannot give you a hug when you feel down. Your iPhone will certainly not give you a shoulder to cry on when your real world is falling apart. Forget about the comfort that you find in these gadgets when you are in your virtual world. You need real people, real conversations and interactions in life.

In offices today no real conversations are made. One might even forget their co-workers actually exist. Everybody is engulfed in their Facebook, email and what have you. They do not want to be interrupted from their chats and Skype sessions. It becomes a bit impossible to focus on the task at hand. Our co-workers make up a significant part of our lives. It wouldn't hurt trying to pay attention to what they say and at least make real conversation with them.

I know we all want to be in the know of the latest fads and trends. This makes social media unavoidable. But think about it for a second. Does it make you lose your focus on what is really important in life? Does it make you pay less attention to the people who really matter? What about those annoying habits you acquire from it? I mean always texting when spoken to or checking out your notifications. It can be a tad annoying.

You need to learn how to live on your own terms. Unfriend the many friends you may have who add no value to your life. Deactivate the pop up notifications that always keep your eyes literally glued on your phone. Make real interactions and conversations with people.
